Police have confirmed that a body discovered in woodland in Banknock, near Falkirk, a week ago is 19-year-old Cole Cooper.

Cole's body was found four weeks after he went missing following a night out with friends.

Police Scotland said that his death was being treated as unexplained and extensive inquiries were ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

A vigil to commemorate Cole, of Banknock, will be held in the village on Sunday evening.

Cole's family have been made aware and are being supported by specialist officers.

Detectives said they were piecing together the teenager's last movements, with door-to-door inquiries and a review of CCTV continuing this weekend.

Cole was reported missing on Friday 9 May, two days after police said a witness saw him in the nearby village of Longcroft.

He had been captured on CCTV at several locations in Longcroft in the early hours of Sunday 4 May after leaving a party in Denny.

Officers said they were continuing to appeal for CCTV from the wider Banknock area, particularly close to the A803 Kilsyth Road between 4 and 7 May.

Ch Insp Alex Hatrick said: "My thoughts are with Cole's family and friends at this time and officers will continue to offer them support.

"As our inquiries progress, we are ensuring the family is kept informed with all aspects of the investigation.

"Again, I would urge people to think back and please contact police with any information, no matter how small it might seem."
