Investigation after fire at swimming pool site

by Jason

An investigation is under way into the cause of a fire which engulfed a former swimming pool in Bradford.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) were called at about 16:00 BST on Monday to the fire at the former Rhodesway Pool on Oaks Lane.

Eight crews and an aerial ladder were sent to the building.

The fire was put out but crews remained at the scene overnight and West Yorkshire Police were informed, a fire service spokesperson said.

The former pool closed to the public in 2011

An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way with police asking anyone with information to get in touch.

The pool was sold by Bradford Council at the end of 2024.

The auction estimate was £40-50,000 but it realised more than 10 times that, selling for £508,000.

The pool site was one of 11 council-owned properties to go under the hammer, with plots of land, empty homes and an old filling station also being sold.
